Summary: Capable of performing commissioning / installation tests on complex projects having standard or IP55 Gensets with multiple starting systems (Electrical, Air and Hydraulic). Experience to in start-up, testing and documentation in a timely manner. Position will require identification of problems and potential solutions during new product development with support. This will include supporting the Engineers, Sales and Marketing, Manufacturing, and channel partners and liaison with customers. |
Main Requirements:
- 5 to 10 years of relevant experience , particularly related to Generator commissioning using customized controller and Microprocessor based Relay commissioning
- Should have experience working with Oil & Gas companies
Diploma / Bachelor Degree in Electrical / Electrical & Electronic Engineering - Experience in Site management
Experience in creating daily reports, Test reports , Training to Customer personnel / representatives - Good in communication , fluent in English
- UAE Driving License
- Ready to Travel out of country
- Previous experience of commissioning projects is MUST.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supporting planning for pre-commissioning and commissioning testing from installation through to project completion in order to meet an established deadline.
Take the lead to ensure all components are identified and commissioned/tested in a safe and timely manner.
Identify installation issues during commissioning/testing to ensure that equipment is placed in service without risk.
Ensure that finalized documentation is issued to customers and company organization.
Support correspondence for the projects, to ensure that the appropriate action is taken.
Assist with system training as required.
Document and track issues and provide this data to Warranty Improvement and product teams for action.
• Manage the commissioning of the project by Coordinating between the company and the Contractor/Client.
• Supervise and approve commissioning plans in accordance with project guidelines and specification.
• Perform Testing and commissioning of highly customized Diesel Generating Sets.
• Should able to perform Primary and Secondary Injection Tests on Current and Voltage Transformer part of Alternator to check different performance of supplied items.
• Should have knowledge and hands on experience of Testing of Current and Voltage Transformer such as Insulation Test , ratio Test , Polarity and Resistance measurement test , Magnetizing Curve test etc.
• Should have knowledge and hands on experience on Testing and commissioning of Microprocessor Based Numerical relay for generator protections such as GE , Siemens , Micom , VAMP etc
• Relay programming , testing and commissioning.
• System Power Up and Internal I/O check o I/O Loop Check
• C&E & Control Philosophy test
• Should have knowledge and hands on experience on working with high end Generator Controller Testing and commissioning such as Wood ward easygen , DIEF , ComAp etc
• Should have knowledge on Medium voltage generator 3.3KV , 6.6KV , 11 KV etc.
• Should able to make communication with customer equipment such as SCMS , SCADA or DSC system
• Testing of generating set using load bank (resistive or reactive) . should able to make dynamic performance tests.
• Candidate should able to make Noise and vibration level test
• Testing of Ni-CD Batteries and Battery charger
• Should able to make Site Acceptance Test procedure
• Represents the Commissioning function at risk review meetings throughout the project lifecycle e.g. hazard and operability study and hazard identification study reviews in the design phase and the Commissioning panel during the commissioning phase.
• Conducts risk and opportunity assessments in real time during the commissioning phase to ensure safe implementation of the commissioning philosophy and identification of potential variation requests to support contract claims.
• Reports early any contract/quality/program/cost issues to management, along with recommendations for resolution.

• Data Gathering And Analysis - Basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical measurement systems, quality measures and selection criteria.
• Diagnostics - Troubleshoots diagnostics problems. Makes minor diagnostics design changes. Develops simple algorithms. Calibrates algorithms using tuning guide. Completes testing against a written test plan.
• Distribution/Service Network Knowledge - Knowledge of the Distribution Business Unit's role in the distribution and support of Cummins products. Effectively communicates and works with Distributor personnel to complete performance plan objectives which require interaction with the global distribution network.
• Electronic Service Tools Product Knowledge - Can identify and utilize proper electronic service tools to repair, maintain, and diagnose equipment. Is able to recognize the need for specialized tools with either a new design or a change in design.
• Manage Customer Relationships - Has established rapport, delivered on commitments, and developed a positive relationship with customers. Uses appointment tracking system, documents call plans, meeting notes and action items.
• Power Electrical System & Switchgear Design (PowerGen Only) - Understands the underlying principles, techniques, and procedures of power electrical systems and switchgears.
• Product Validation - Understands the measures of data quality, methods of analysis and available tools. Includes the understanding of the work flow required to schedule, install, setup, calibrate, and operate the equipment associated with testing.
Additional Local Responsibilities:
Liaise with Project Management Team and vendors to safely start up customer facilities as per Cummins Guidelines and customer requirements
Guide customers through Genset/equipment installation requirements during installation stage, by providing information on Cummins Guidelines.
Conduct and prepare for Customers Witness Test.
Provide efficient and effective onsite supervision of installation and commissioning.
Skills:
Develops Systems and Processes, Innovate, Analyse Issues, Manage Execution, Gathering and Understanding Voice of the Customer (VOC).
Travelling – Job requires extensive travelling inside and outside the country including low security level countries within Cummins Global security guidelines.
Trouble shooting – Logical approach to resolve functional issues in electrical equipment.
Working knowledge on High Voltage (HV) Electrical System– Testing and commissioning of HV generators, switchgears, transformers, protection relays.
Hands on experience in Gensets third parity controllers such as Easygen , Deif , etc..
Generators Synchronization – Working Knowledge on Control Systems, interlocking systems.
Knowledge in reading drawings/documents – Electrical drawings, PID diagrams, layout drawings, mechanical GA drawings, equipment interfacing documents like cable schedules, interconnection schedules
Working knowledge on PLC & Communications. (Preferable – Schneider & AB PLCs and knowledge of MODBUS, ETHERNET, FIBER OPTIC communication protocols, HMI integration with PLC and communication/signal integration with BMS/SCADA
Software Knowledge (Preferable – LONMAKER, CONCEPT, UNITY, ADVANTECH, STEP7, MODSCAN & MODSIM Related)
Knowledge in Cummins products is preferable.
The ideal candidate will possess a degree in engineering, with a focus on mechanical or electrical disciplines.
